A BOMB THROWN

MELBOURNE, Oct. 29. Four Italians! were wounded and eighteen others had remarkable escapes on Saturday night Avhen a bomb was dropped amongst them Avhile playing cards in a house in West Melbourne. Two men Avero seem peeping through a windoAV before tin- explosion, hut they escaped in a motor ear. Some Italians were volunteers on the wharves. The bomb did considerable damage to the room. This is the filth similar outrage.

A GRASSHOPPER PLAGUE. SYDNEY, Oct. 29

Grasshoppers are causing serious damage to crops m Parks district, in some cases fifty per cent of the wheat heads have been eaten. The crops are being converted into fodder.

A remarkable accident of the “did’nt know it was loaded,” variety, occurred at Manly when Victor X. Si'mons visiting friends, allowed his three year old son to play with a pea rifle without ascertaining if it were loaded. The boy pulled the trigger and Simon staggered back shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital but the injury is not ‘serious.
