PROPERTY FOR, GIRL GUIDES AUCKLAND, October 24.

A property of about ten acres in the Waitakere ranges, with a house affording accommodation for about fifty girls, has been presented to the New Zealand Girl Guides Association by Mr and Mrs W. R. Wilson and Mrs Roy of Auckland. It is hoped “ Otimai,” as the property,' is called, will be for New Zealand what Foxlease, the guiders place in England is for Great Britain. Although it «.w’illi .for the greater part, be used by the Auckland members for week-end camps. and special instructioncamps, it is intended that it should be a national rallying place. The entire cost has been borne by the donors, who have also provided the furnishings. . .

CHEQUE FRAUDS. DUNEDIN, Oct. 24

The sequel to what was described by counsel as 'a “mad get-rich-quiek scheme” was enacted in the Police ’ Court to-day, before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, /S.M., when two men, named Herbert Rollinson and Harry Vincent, appeared, on several charges' of having obtained, money by means of valueless cheques. Chief • Detective Cameron, who conducted the prosecution; stated that the accused had travelled albout the country attempting to form companies in connection with, the petrol supply business, and .»their~ funds had run low, they issued valueless cheques to meet ■ their liabilities. In all nineteen cheques bad been issued, money to the value' of £l5O having been' obtained thereby. Both men came of good families, Rollinson’s people being highly respectable residents in tho Timaru district. “ ' Counsel for the accused said that a mad get-rich-quick scheme had been their downfall, and they had been more foolish than criminal. Probation was asked for.

The Magistrate ordered the accused to be detained in custody until Saturday in order that a report might fee received from the Probation Officer.

TO AT HEENEY SAILS. AUCKLAND, October,24

Mr and Mrs Tom Heeney yesterday left- on their 'return to America by the liner Niagara. Tom Heeney paid a surprise visit to tho Community Sunshine Club, and presented the boys with a pair of boxing gloves and a punching Bag. Tlfe boys in turn presented Mrs Heeney with a.- New Zealand flag, to give for exhibition in a suitable club in New York, as a memento of their admiration' for her husband. ’

MUTILATED BODY. FOUND ON RAILWAY TRACK. WELLINGTON, October 24. Tlie badly-mutilated body of a man was found on the railway track at Ngahauranga Station this morning. ' Ifc-is thought that he was knocked down by the 4.15 train. The body has not yet been identified.
