The Kanieri Tennis Club will hold a grand hall in the Public Hall, Kanieri, on Monthly Oct. 22nd. (Labour Day). Music by Ross’ Orchestra. Admission, gentlemen 3s, ladies 2s.—Advt. The Kanieri Tennis Club open the season on Monday next (Labour Day) , and will wind up -with a. grand ball in the Public Hall, Kanieri, in the evening. The motor ship Zingara arrived from Wellington at 1 p.m. to-day after having been forced to take shelter owing to the rough weather. The ship after unloading cargo, ships a full load of timber for Wellington, sailing to-morrow at 2 p.m., r after ? loading all night.

The death took place yesterday at the Greymouth Hospital of Mr David M ( cCauslin,| aged 26 years. The late Mr McCauslin was born in Dunedin. He had been employed’by Mr B. Tate as a, boot repairer for the past four years. Deceased was admitted to the hospital last Friday, suffering" from pneumonia and pleurisy. He was a member of tie Druids’ Lodge. Mr -. McCauslin, senr., arrived from edin yesterday. The death occurred yesterday of one ~f the old pioneer residents of the district, in the person df Mr Robert Coom, of Reef ton, aged 81 years. Deceased, who was a native of England, w'as formerly a blacksmith, and worked in that capacity for many years at the State Mine. His wife predeceased him a few months ago. He is survied by two sons (Henry, of Heath- \ cote, and Austin, of Cobden); also two daughters (Mrs Bloxam, df Heathcote, and'Mrs Grant, of Cobden).
