The Prime Minister announced that the general election would be held on Wednesday. November 14th. OAMARU SEAT. OAMARU, Oct. 10. His definite decision to contest the Oamaru seat as the United Party’s candidate, was announced to-day by. Air J. AlaoPherson, who represented Oamaru as a Nationalist from 1922 to 1925. REFORM CANDIDATE. ASHBURTON, October 10. Air Davids; Jones, the Reform candidate for ,A I. i d-C-a n ter bin ry‘, Addressed a meeting here to-night. He claimed that, the Reform Government represented Li'lbo-ur, and did so better than any Labour Government in the Empire. He spoke regarding finance, and said that the interest on war debt and sinking fund amounted to practically the amount spent on public works last year so that but for war burdens borrowing could have ceased. He, defended the Government’s land policy hut he said that further development was essential. A vote of thanks was carried by acclamation.
