KOERBIN CASE
WIFE SENTENCED TO THREE MONTHS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 3. Marion Koerhin, aged 43, who was found guilty in the Supreme Court of attempting to administer poison with the intention to injure or annoy her husband, Herbert Koerhin, and was sentenced by Justice Sim this morning to three months. Mr S ievwright pointed out that the jury made a strong recommendation to mercy. The prisoner had an unblemished record and had been a good mother to her children. A .severe sentence as a deterrent was hardly necessary from the public point of view as the crime was not a common one. His Honour said it was ( fortunate for the prisoner that the jury felt justified in acquitting her on a more serious charge. He desired to give effect to the jury’s recommendation as far as possible. It seemed clear the prisoner would have to undergo a term of imprisonment. In fixing the term, he would take consideration of tho fact that she had been in custody since her arrest on June 26.
