AUSTRALIAN LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIPS. Australian Press Assn.—United Service SYDNEY, August 2. There was dull showery weather and a heavy course tor the first qualifying round of the Australian Women’s Golf Championship, which to-day commenced. At the end of the first round the leading eight players were:—Miss Olive Kay (New Zealand) 77 ; Miss McLeod (Victoria) 82; Mrs Triglone (N.S.W.) 82; Miss Hay (Victoria) 84; Mrs Gatehouse (Victoria) 85; Miss Susie Tolhurst (N.S.W.) 85. .Miss Kay played remarkable golf, especially over the last nine holes, which she covered in thirty-five, funishing the round in seventy-seven, which broke the Rose Bay record for associates. Miss Kay made a few errors, chiefly on the green’s going out, but plaved clockwork golf coming borne Others who qualified included Miss Snodgrass (New Zealand). A ladies’ challenge bowl thirty-six hole stroke handicap is being player j„ conjunction with the championship. The first round leaders were Mrs Slack /v- c \y ) 75 ; Mrs Binnie (N.S.W •) <o; Miss M. Hill (N.S.W.) 76; Miss 0. K„v <** Aug. 3. Miss Payton and Mrs Weston each scored ninety-nine in yesterday s fist round of the associates championship.
