BULLER DEFEAT COAST.

WESTPORT, July 22,
In the return Rugby match between Buller and West Coast, played on Victoria Square to-day, Buller turned the tables on their former victors, winning by 14 points to 13, after a game that was always full of interest. ' ■The first spell found Buller much disorganised. The Coast team showed out the. better both in the forwards and in the hacks. F. Griffiths, the Buller captain, then came up from full-back to five-eighths, and altered the whole complexion of the game, Buller backs developing attacks and putting more vigour into their play, and Buller thereafter more than held their own. The game, however, was always open for possibilities, as quick changes from defence to attack repeatedly took place. The final score left Buller winners by one point. For Buller tries were scored by J. Caldwell. (2), Clarke and Mclntyre, Caldwell converting one try. The scorers for West Coast were: Freitas (2), and Tainui, while Caulton and Tainui each converted a try,
COAST BEAT REEFTON. REEFTON, July 22. On the Reefton Racecourse this afternoon, West Coast representatives defeated the Inangahun reps by 14 points to 5 after a good display of Itughy. in excellent football weather, with the ground in perfect order.
WEST COAST TEAM. The following team will represent the West Coast in their match for flic Seddon Shield at Nelson on Saturday: Full-hack: Nicholson. , Three-quarters: Rfahlert, Fong and Tainui. Five-eighths : Iving and Houston. Half-back: McCleaiy (capt). Forwards: Hagar, Pfahlert, E. Patterson, Caulton, Freitas, Mclntosh, Dougherty and Baron. Enicrg: Backs, Jenkins and J. Adams; forwards, ■ Kelly and Rathbun .
NELSON v. MARLBOROUGH. NELSON, July 21. At Rugby to-day in fine weather Nelson defeated Marlborough after a 'rattier- uninteresting display by 18 points to !). The local backs were superior, but the forwards wore fairly ■evenly matched. In the first spoil Marlborough led by o—s. In the second, spell the Nelson hacks brought off several good passing bouts. For the winners tries wore scored by bnodgrss (2), Wells and Fowler, Reid converting three. For Marlborough tries were got by Devine, Smith and Washington.
SOUTH CANTERBURY WIN: OAMARU, July 21. In the first Rugby rep match of this |;eason, South 'Canterbury defeated North Otago by 10 to 0 .in a bright, spectacular exhibition of the codo. The visiting backs showed good combination, and brought off many nice passing bouts. The homo forwards outplayed their opponents, in the loose though the latter, adopting the 3-2-3 formation, won the scrums by 2 to 1.
WIN FOR WAIROA* WAIROA, July 27
Hie annual Rugby representative fixture, Napier-Hnstings versus Wairoa at Wairoa to-day, was played in fine weathoi-, and resulted in a win for Wairoa by twenty-two to nine, after a good, fast game.
WAIRARAPA BEATEN. INVERCARGILL, July 21. The first representative game of the season was played here to-day when Southland defeated Wairarapa by 24 points to 23, after a keenly contested game, in which the result was in doubt until' the conversion, of Southland’s last try. The weather was dull, but fine and there was no wind, the ground being in good order. Tho attendance was .‘between five* and six thousand.
JUNIOR REP. GAME. MASTER TON, July 21. In the Junior Rugby rep. match, Wairarapa defeated Hawke’s Bay by seventeen points to nine in an uninteresting game. N.S. WALES v. VICTORIA. MELBOURNE, July 22. Til a Rugby Union rep match, New South Wales defeated Victoria by 22 points to 19.

In line, hut cold, weather, and in the presence of thirty-eight thousand people, Australia yesterday defeated England in the third and final Rugby League test match by 21 points to 14. AUCKLAND, July 21. The Auckland Rugby League representatives beat Canterbury reps by G 6 to 26 in a match for the Northern Union Challenge Cup. The attendance was about fifteen thousand. The weather was dull and light rain fell fter half time. Hanrahan (Canterbury) was hurt mid-way through the game and had to retire. GREY-MOUTH, July 23. In the presence; of twelve hundred people the West Coast representatives met and defeated Buller by seventeen points to fourteen at the Recreation ground last Saturday, after a splendid exhibition of the code. A BROKEN LEG . , DUNEDIN, July 22. While playing in the second grade match, Taiefi v. Port Chalmers, on Saturday, Hugh Paterson, aged 22, fractured his right leg. He was removed to the hospital.
