A LABRADOR MISSIONARY

RUGBY, July 15. Dr Wilfred Grenfell, wlio is well known for his missionary work in Labrador and Newfoundland, was received by the King at Buckingham Palace yesterday.

His Majesty conferred upon him the honour of Knight Commander of Saint Michael and Saint George.

Dr Grenfell has spent twenty-five years in ministering to seamen and the other inhabitants of wild Labrador, where he was qualified to act, as occasion, demanded, as missionary, surgeon, master mariner, and Magistrate.

KING TO INSPECT WARSHIPS. RUGBY, July 15.

The King is visiting Portsmouth on Tuesday to inspect the new Australian cruisers, Canberra and Australia. Ho will also visit Nelson’s flagship, the Victory, in the restoration of which he has taken a keen interest. The King will afterwards visit the latest battleship, the Nelson, the flagship of the Atlantic fleet. UNLUCKY STEAMER. RUGBY, July 15. A heat fog in the Channel caused the German steamer Augsburg, 7000 tons, to collide with the Italian steamer Mnrigola, seven miles south-west of Dover. The Augsburg afterwards collided with the wall of Dover Harbour, doing much damage, and is now aground oil Chalk Rock, east of the port, with her bows smashed in.
