It was a surprise to find Scotland Yard methods brought into question, but the result of the l(<te enquiry seems

at least to have stopped short of any condign punishment on those alleged to have acted extravagantly in regard to the young lady who was associated with an English baronet in some q uestionable charges. At the same time some change is proposed in tho control of the Metropolitan police, and the proposed appointee has given offence to the Labour party. With recollections of the critical time in London on tho last serious revolt it is essential a man of organising experience should be in the responsible place which is to assure public comfort and safety. On that score the government of the day can bo fully trusted to exercise a good choice in selecting one capable of the discharge of the duties which will fall to his lot in time of national emergency. As regards the methods of Scotland Yard justice has to be served, and it would appear the reputation of Scotland Yard in that respect stands high. The freedom of the individual is very zealously guarded under the law, and we may be sure Scotland Yard would Iso conscious of that, and duty would be done only within the law and with regard for the public welfare as a whole.
