PARLIAMENT

THE COUNCIL. AVELLINGTON, July 3. The Legislative Council met at 2.30

Leave of absence for the session was granted to Sir Thos. Alackenzie, Hons. J. A, Hanan, Dr Collins and Hon. Stewart. Hon. Ball-Jones was granted one month’s leave, Sir J. Allen three days, and Hon. Clark two-weeks, on account of illness in the family and Hon. Newman three days on account of urgent public business. Hon. Thomson gave notice to move to introduce the Captive Birds Shooting Prohibition Bill. The Council adjourned at 3.20 until 2.30 p.m. next day, after passing the usual motions of sympathy in the death of deceased members.

THE HOUSE. ' The House met at 2.30 p.m. The Unemployed AVorkers’ Bill (Air P. Fraser); Religious Exercises in Schools Bill (Air H. Holland, Christchurch North) were i introduced and rend a first time. The customary motions of condolence were passed in connection with the death of Hon. AI. Cohen, Hon. Alajor Harris, Hon. John Fisher, Hon. J. R. Callan, M.L.C.’s, John Edie, Charles Lewis, Sir AA T esterly Pefcival and 11. J. Finnn, former members of the House of Representatives, and at 4.5 p.m. the House rose till 2.30 to-morrow afternoon as a mark of respect to the memory of the deceased.
