The “ Liberty National Magazine,” with two millions oi a circulation, carries an article headed “ A\ bite Australia—Tho Low Pressure Centre of the Globe,” written by Air Lowthrop Stoddard, who several years ago became sensationally famous by his observations on the race problem.

He says in part“ Australia is the focal point where the extending forces of the East and West confront each other most sharply and irreconcilably. It is the logical storm centre, where if the potentially hostile forces should be unleashed, the hurricane winds of a rate war would begin to blow. Let there lie no mistake, we Americans will be in it too. America cotild never stand by and see Australia overwhelmed by Asia ! Give Australia time and security from the Asiatic peril, and she ought, ultimately, to become a nation strong enough to guard against any possible attack.”

DIVORCE IN U.S.A. WASHINGTON, ALay 21. The complete marriage and divorce statistics of the United States have just been complied for the year 1926 by tbe Bureau. They show that, while the marriages have fallen off in recent years from the high point reached in 1920, the divorces have increased, TE<S report states divorces have been increasing “ for more than a quarter of a century .prior to 1926 at the rate far greater than tbe growth of population.” Tbe number of marriages still leads that of divorces, hut the rate of the divorces is steadily increasing, while the marriage rate continues to lessen slightly.

If you had not come soon something would have choked me.” He had sufficient strength to leave the stretcher upon reaching the surface.

The State Department announced today it sent a note on 15th January to the Chinese Nationalist Foreign Alinister at Hwangfu, demanding that the murderers of the American missionary. Dr AValter Seymour, be arrested and executed. The note was delivered at the Nationalist Bureau at Shanghai for transmission to Hwangfu and also demands for the arrest and punishment of officers responsible for looting the American mission.
