RIFLE SHOOTING.
(By 'Telegraph—Per Press Association.) TRENTHAM. Feb. 21. Rain ceased at midday and the conditions were ideal for shooting. Maj-or-General R. H. Young (Commander of the Forces) visited the range and was an interested spectator for some time. In the opening match, now nearing completion Powell (Akarana) is leading with 101. Others who have done well arc Wilesmith (New South .Wales) and Johnston (Featherston) each 100, Hood (Featherston) 99, Shannon (Australia), Nix (Featherston), Elga (Hnwern) each 98, Forge (Australia) 97. TRENTHAM, Feh 24. Heavy rain last night cooled the atmosphere. Light showers were in evidence during the progress of the opening match which was fired this morning. 'The visability was good, but a tricky wind was troubling most marksmen. No possibles were recorded at ,300 yards. Four registered ,34, including the veteran Frazer (TCaitangata). The match was won by Powell (Akarann) with an aggregate score of 101, followed by Wilesmith (NH.W.) and Johnson (Featherston) each 100,
