BANDS’ ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH. Fob. ‘2O. The annual meeting of the South Island Bands’ Association was hold today. The balance sheet showed a crelit balance of £I3S Us. The question of professionalism at roiitests was raised in a letter from Mi- li. .1. Estall. tendering his resignation as trustee. His reason, as stated. was that the Association was drifting away from the principle and objects for which it was formed, namely, the fostering of competition among amateur bands. The Secretary: It is not the fault ol the Association that we arc drifting towards professionalism ; it is the fault ,f the hands themselves. [t was stated that at the Dunedin contest some hands played as many ts four professionals. It was agreed that the whole matter he referred to the incoming executive for consideration.
