(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. H.M.A.S. SYDNEY. FAMOUS CRUISERS END. SYDNEY, Feb. 9. Unlionoured and unsung. H.M.A.S Sydney, which had the distinction y destroying the notorious Eniden dtirinj. the war, slipped out of Sydney JJarbou: for the last time a few days ago. Although the Sydney has reached the retiring age, tho city which hears its name, and which, perhaps, has a deepen sea sense than any of the capital cities is glad to know that the ship is not tc lie scrapped, or to he sunk, like the Australia, hut is to he. preserved tc serve some such historic purpose as Nelson's Victory. While Sydney folk are not sentimental, there was much heartburning when, amid most impressive ceremony, H.M.A.S. Australia was dragged out beyond the heads, and sunk in keeping with the Washington pact. It would have been even more pronounced if the Sydney, hearing one of the biggest honours of the naval warfare in the waters .surrounding Australia, had also been compelled to surrender to the sea, to which it lias been so faithful. SIR G. FULLER FAREWELLED. SYDNEY. Feb. 19. Sir George Fuller was entertained at a farewell banquet prior to his departure for London to assume tho A gent-Generalship. Mr Bavin, the Premier, and other politicians eulogised his long political services to the State. WATCHMAN SHOT DEAD. MELBOURNE, Feb. 19. A night watchman named Patrick Fitzgerald was shot dead while engaged in his duties. It is believed that lie disturbed an intruder in the building.
