The unexpected precipitation of a movement to secure a downward revision of tlie tariff, occurred in the Senate to-day, when Senator Mi-Master asked for action on his resolution putting the Senate on record as favouring tarilf reducing during the present session. He intimated that relief for farmers cannot otherwise be secured. A discussion lasiing several hours followed. .Senator M'alsh said that certain industries were entitled to increased rates. Senator Borah said he favoured increased duties oil farm products. Various other Senators indicated particular iikhistrie.3 that should lie favoured,
