AVIATION.
(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association. AIR MISSION, (Received this day at 9.30 a.m). LONDON, Jan. 8. Full of optimism the Air Mission returned from Australia and New Zealand. The Air Ministry decided to go ahead, as early as possible, with demonstration flights, immediately two airships are available, ft is expected the'first available will be the EIOO. which is being built by contract by Burneys Company, probably late in 1929 because the engines are petrol driven. The Ministry prefers a demonstration under normal, equable climatic and atmospheric conditions, therefore it is decided the first demonstration shall he in Canada probably in tho Canadian autumn of 1931. Thereafter another demonstration in India. Tho second airship IMOI, which is being built at the Air Ministry's works at Cardington, will probably be road--early in 1930. This airship is fuelled with heayv oil and is therefore better suited to the cold, semi-tropical, and tropical climates encountered between Britain and the Cape. The first trip of the ElOl will lie limited to the Cape and tho second to Perth via the Cape, ft is proposed to date the trip when favourable winds will enable the airship | to utilize only two out of the five engines, between the Cape and Australia. It is also proposed to return via Ceylon, when there arc favourable winds in the Indian Ocean, the ship proceeding from Ceylon, which the Air Ministry prophesy will probably become one of the world’s greatest air ports to Egypt. LINDBERG’K FLY. SAN JOSE (Costa Rica). Jan. 8. Lindberghs arrival here after cross ing Central American volcanoes is an aeroplane record. He was welcomed l>y a erowrl of fifty Him,sand.
