MONDAY, DECEMBER. 19th. The monthly meeting of the above | wiis held nt the County Chambers at 7.30 o’clock. Present: Messrs D. .J. Evans (voted to the chair). Craw, W. 1). .Maekav, \Y. Jelfries, .1. W. Morris, and Dr Teichelmann. Apologies were received from Messrs Dull', Butler and Mclntosh. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. IX\Y A R D CORR ESPONRENCE. From Tourist Department regretting funds were not available to assist with the issue of a further supply of the booklet. “ A Holiday in Westland.” Received. From Borough Council asking cooperation with the arrangements lor the (Irey Jubilee.—Received and agreed ifco. From Westland Acclimatisation and Tourist Associations, voting .CI.A lor further screen advertising, and promising £3o for issue of booklet, contingent upon a like amount being found locally. —Received with thanks. It was agreed to order .‘I,OOO copies on account of a .1,000 issue of " A Holiday in Westland.” Dr Teichelmann stated Messrs Newmans and draham Bros, would guarantee the cost of 1,000 copies, i eeeived with thanks, and Air Jeflieis and Dr Teichelmann were deputed to canvass for financial assistance with an additional 1,000 copies. The Southland. Canterbury and Marlborough Leagues forwarded copies ol their monthly meetings.—Received with thanks. fn regard to the expected opening of the Tophouse route to Marlborough, it was decided to ascertain a suitable date for an exchange of visits between the two Leagues. Tt was also resolved to eomgra t ula to the Marlborough League on the opening of the route and the shortening of the journey to the Coast. From T. K. . Station. tosh all cl Evans for their successful efforts in the canvass of subscribers. A special vote of thanks was passed also to Mr Mclntosh for the free use of his motor-ear in connection with the effort. From Canterbury Progress League and Eric James regretting the Otago Expansion League was not able to cooperate in the proposed round trip via the Haast Pass.—Received with regret. From N.Z. Tourist League, Auckland, with regard to publicity work.— Received with thanks. GENERAL. It was resolved to suggest to the Postal Department that in view of the alteration in the train time-table, the closing time for the afternoon mail to Gre.vmouth be extended from 3.45 to 4.15 o'clock. It was resolved also to suggest to the Postmaster that on the arrival of large mail matter, additional hands be put on to cope with the sorting into private boxes. With regard to the carriage of lime by rail for bona fide farmers, it was resolved to wait on the Minister for Agriculture during his visit to the district next month. | An account for £l2 15s for screen advertising in Christchurch and Wellington was passed for payment. Mr Joifries referred to the facilities for quick traffic which would bo avail-
able with the opening of the Coastal road shortly, and reported on the progress made with the road of late. Appreciation was expressed at the encouraging nature of the report. The Chairman spoke with regard to increased advertising by pictorial matter in the weeklies so as to reach the Dominion population; and also to secure, if possible, reproductions of Dr Teichclmann’s fine panorama of the Southern Alps, with remarks by Mr Amcry printed below, for publication by poster advertisement throughout New Zealand. It was decided enquiry be made through the Publicity Department as to the cost of the necessary reproductions in lit ho posters, subject to Dr Teichelmami’s approval. Tile meeting concluded at 8.15 p.m.
