Blackie took G for 46, Ironmonger 2 for 26. Queensland in the second innings had lost 1 for 32 when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and cool, and wicket good hut the outfield was heavy owing to overnight rain, during which the wicket was covered. The batsmen intent on stonewallm?! to save an innings defeat dug in and the scoring was very slow. In Hie first half hour only eleven runs were scored. Blaekie’s howling demoralised the Queenslanders and with Ironmonger’s howling at the other end,
the side was tied up, the batsmen’s digging in tactics being unavailing. Queensland followed on but did not look like doing better than in the first innings. ADELAIDE, Dec. .21). South Australia, first innings. 481. (Schneider 108, Richardson 80. Alexander 42, Hack 45, Grininiett, not out. 43). New South Wales, second innings, one- for 2G. when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine and wicket good. Richardson after two chances gave a sparkling exhibition. Schneider hatting cautiously, took no c-hances until he had reached the century, then attempting to liven the scoring rate, which was very slow. The last wicket although scoring very slowly, was mainly responsible for South Australia’s good position. After luncheon the wickets foil quickly until Hack stopped the rot, stonewalling in an attempt to take the sting from the howling. He was then partnered by Grimmctt who made a fine fighting stand taking no chances and bringing the side’s score almost to the New South Wales total. Bowling—-Everett 3 for 92, Jordan 2 for 65, Mailev 3 for 143, Andrews 2 for 66.
HAWKE CUP MATCH. NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 19. With six wickets down for 322 runs, at the drawing of stumps, Wanganui batsmen made a good showing in the continuation of the Hawke Cup match to-day. Taranaki made 224 in the first innings on Saturday, and Wanganui reached nine without a loss. Batting was rather slow on the resumption to-day. Bunny was top scorer with 83, Kerr making 71, and Bcrnau 40.
