(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) vSHIPOW XKR S’ A P PIJCATI OX. SYDNEY, Dec. 19. In the Federal Arbitration Court, counsel for the Common wealth Steamship Owners’ Association applied for a direction from the Court to the Queensland Branch of the Waterside Workers’ Federation to cease breaking the Queensland State Award. It was pointed out that the Queensland watersiilers were covered by the State Award, but the watersiilers of this State did not propose to join that a wa rd.
The Secretary of the Queensland Brunch of the Federation said that his brunch did not want the I'oderalion to interfere in State awards. The two awards were not connected. Judge Beoby ruled that the Queensland State Award was outside the jurisdiction of the Federal Arbitration Court and he refused to give the direction sought. Judge Beefy added that he proposed to submit a scheme to the watorsiders and the owners of the Commonwealth, for expediting the handling of cargo, payment, to be on a basis of the quantities handled.
MIXKBS IDLE. SYDNEY. Dec. 10. Another four hundred coal miners in the northern coalfields were dismissed. the reason given being slackness of trade. FOUND DEAD. SYDNEY, Dee. 20. Sydney Wade, who is believed to have recently arrived from New Zealand, was found dead in a city residential area. He had been in ill-health for some time. There were no suspicious circumstances attached to his death. /
