MR AMERY ON TOUR

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) HON. AMERY ARRIVES. PERTH, Oct. 11. Hon. Amery reached Albany by the steamer Ulysses and was welcomed by Sir Neville Rose on behalf of the Com monwealth Government, members the State Government and prominent citizens. Mr Amery, interviewed, said the object of the tour of the Dominions was to learn what he could about their conditions and still more important to get to know their people. Ho considered it fairly desirable that every Minister of the Imperial Government should mako an effort to inform himself on affairs and problems in all parts of the Empire. This in partieu lar applied to the Minister who was specifically charged with the responsibilities of keeping various aspects of Imperial co-operation before his colleagues. Only thus can we co-operate most effectively for our mutual benefit. He realised a few weeks touring and keeping open his own eyes were likely to prove to be worth years of reading books or despatches, or even conversing in London with visitors from the Dominions. This prompted his tour. He did not think it right to expect all the effort and sacrifice of long journeys should be made by Dominion Ministers. It seems whenever possible, British Ministers should reciprocate by taking every opportunity of visiting the Dominions. He enlarged upon the importance of being able to discuss direct with the various governments, current questions and thereby straighten them out more quickly. In this connection lie referred particularly to the question of marketing and migration. He was anxious to learn where the Imperial Government could cooperate with the dominion governments in stimulating that scientific research which was vital to production nowadays. He hoped to have some talks with settlers so as to learn exactly what their difficulties are, and in this way make a real success of the iin migration movement and get that continuous steady flow of migrants which waifybest for the Dominions and Britain!

HON. AMBRY'S IMPRESSIONS. (Received this day at 8.50 a.m.) PERTH, Oct. 12. Hon. Amery, speaking at a civic reception tendered him at Albany, said he was immensely impressed by the spirit of the settlers and the great obvious progress made in the area lie visited during the day, when escorted round group settlement in the Denmark area. Conversing with the settlers, lie added, “ I believe we can supply you wit the best material towards the building up of a White Australian nation, and with a market for your products. W can make sure that the best share, of the best market in the world shall be reserved for to own kin.
