From Captain Bollons giving information as to the facilities for trading in the Sounds, as follows: In reply to your letter of July 11th which reached me on my return from tho northern lighthouses, I can only state tho well known fact that the Sounds have certainly /been surveyed, hut not by triangulation. As far as navigating those places with a light draught steamer and by a seaman locally acquainted, they are perfectly safe. At tho same time many sunken rocks have been discovered during the past thirty years and seeing the groat depths and the many little islets and rocks just above water, without doubt there are many rocks under water to be located yet. Still, the same conditions of deep water rendei it almost impossible than any survey will pick these up. Even after close and exhaustive sounding by a modern survey ship, dangers have later on been found between their lines of soundings, and this in comparative shallow water.
As I say the West Coast Sounds are perfectly safe when navigated by a careful man locally acquainted, and with a vessel of from 10 to 12 feet draught. Milford and George Sounds are exempt from shoal foreshores. — Received with thanks. From New Zealand Railways regarding advertising schemo affecting winter traffic.—Received, League to carry out its scheme.

From New Zealand Artists’ Journal asking support to the publication, which was to be a special annual and would advertise tho district. Recoil-
ed. From T. E. Y. Seddon, M.R., with i-egnrd to projected visit of the Imperial Air Commission. —Received with thanks and referred to the President who bad been taking a personal interest in the matter. GENERAL.
With regard to the advertising scheme, the Secretary was authorised to arrange for a two months’ film advertising schemo in Christchurch theatres extending over November and December, and if funds permit lator to include January and also a short, period in Wellington theatres.^ Tho meeting concluded at 8.15 p.m.
