It is now quite clear, according to a cable which the New Zealand Cricket Council has received from Hay, tho Manager of the New Zealand team, that the English tour is going to result in a heavy loss. This has been caused largely by the continuous wet weather, resulting in so many matches being abandoned. Hay’s cable which contained the financial results of the tour to date was considered at a special meeting of the Council last niglit. It is now' proposed to play matches in Wellington and Christchurch on the team’s return, between the tourists and the rest of New Zealand, and to ask Wellington City Council and the Lancaster Park Board of Control to forego their usual charges for the use of grounds for these matches, so that tho returns bo as substantial as "* possible. The decision to play matches In Wellington and Christchurch should afford a splendid opportunity of including Bowloy and Newman ns well as Badcock in the team playing against the tourists. CRICKET CHAMPIONSHIP. LONDON, August 30. By an outright win, combined with Lancashire’s first innings points, Notts is virtually certain to win the championship.
