AUSTRALIAN NEWS.
(Hv Telegraph—Per Press Association.) RAILWAY-MEN SUSPENDED. (Reouived this day at 10.15 a.in.) BRISBANE, Aug. 25. 22 railwayman are now suspended at Innisfail for refusing to handle goods consigned to and from South Johnstone mill. A mass meeting of a thousand railwayman at Ipswich pledged themselves to suport the suspended men. An attempt is being made to transfer the railwayman front Townsville and Cairns to Innisfail, but they refuse to go. It is anticipated they will also he suspended. In the Assembly, the Premier announced that the Government were determined that the instructions of the railway commissioner must he carried out by the men. He added that persistence by the railway union in its present policy of defying those instructions will only bring disaster to all concerned.
AIR MISSION. (Received this <3av at 11.0 am.) SYDNEY, Aug. 25. Group Capt. Fcllowes, Flight Lieut. Nixon and M. A. Gibhett, who comprise the Imperial Air Mission, leave for New Zealand to-day. Do. to,- Pickerill. of Dunedin, addressing the Dental Congress said there existed a serious alkali drug habit. People dosed t liemsclves wiih bismuth, sodium carbonate or ant'iacids for indigestion. The amount of alkali in the form of tooth powders and ofistos partially consumed and sodium carbonate consumed in artificial foods, mid drinks must lie said to he very considerable. In some cases alkali were necessary to rest si rained or acutely inflamed digestive organs, but they could not be continued indefinitely without harm resulting. COLD WEATHER. SYDNEY, Aug. 2.5. A long spell of cold rainless weather continues unbroken with stiff frosts nightly. The want of rain is being seriously felt. MARATHON RACE. SYDNEY. Aug. 25. There are forty entrants including all States and a. New Zealander, Bruton for tho Australian marathon race on Saturday over a course of 20 miles 385 yards.
