Following on court proceedings in the engineering ease, the parties to the dispute met to consider proposals fof a settlement, hut without result. Negotiations will he continued to-day when Judge ISecbv may participate.

STRANDED RIVERINA. SYDNEY, Aug. 17

Strenuous efforts are being made oil the present high tide to refloat tne stranded steamer Riverina, hut with i'ittle success. Further attempts will he made next full moon. Meantime more sand pumps will lie installed.
