MAORIS v. BULLER. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AVESTPORT, Aug. 3. After heavy overnight rain, the went her cleared to-day for the Rugby match, Bailor v. Maoris, which was played under very favourable conditions, in the presence of a largo gathering of spectators. Bnller. with the advantage of wind and sun, in the first spoil, led by 0 points to 3. Buller scores were chiefly got by determined forward play. Harris kicked two penalty goals. Beard scored a try for Buller, while S. Gemmell scored un unconverted try for the Maoris.
The visitors took fill 1 advantage of the wind and tlio sun in the second spell, and, with admirable line kicking. they repeatedly threw Buller back on the defensive. Their hacks also opened out the play, and tries were scored by Pelham (2). S. Gemnielli, AYil-on and Lockwood. Crawford converted two tries, making the final score—Maoris 22, Buller 9, Air E. J. It was decided to inform tlte Hawke’s Bay Union that the appeal must he made through the X.Z. Union unconditionally.

A lengthy series of resolutions were received from the N.Z. .Mr W. A. Armour, headmaster of the Roys’ High Sehoo.l Napier, advised that In* had received replies to a ei;;- « ulnr sent out to all schools in an endeavour to arrange a modified form of competition for the Monscar Cup. Replies were received from Hi .schools, nine being favourable to a district scheme, and seven being in favour of the total elimination of the Monscar Cup competition. The Chairman said that the competition would he continued for the present season, and that the Unions would have to consider what would ho dono with the cup next season.
