July 18. tn the Commons Mr Olyu asked Hon Amery whether ho would consider the reorganisation of the overseas settlement committee for the purpose of enabling problems affecting Canada. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa he specially attended to. Air Amery said there was no reason to suppose the particular problems were not receiving special attention. The committee tries to he in close linson with tli(> migration authorities of the several Governments. lie did not profess the fullest knowledge of details hut he believed more satistactory work would he done by one committee with one executive head dealing with the different organisations in England. Although the overseas committee generally deals with Hie migration authorities of each Dominion through the High Commissioner. of course it also deals direi tly on occasion. An example at present was the case of the Canadian Minister and Deputy-Minister in England. He was satistied the present committee was most successful and there were no com pla i n ts. Air Baldwin told Mr Ford lie did not intend to introduce legislation equalising t,ho franchise in the autumn session. He would then fake the committee stages of the Finance Bill.
