NEW ZEALAND TEAM AT HOME. FAST OF ENGLAND. (Australian A X.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, July 9. The New Zealand cricketers began a match at Wisbech against the Fast of England. The local team won the toss and batted. All were out for 170 runs. The pitch wits soft, and the New Zealanders made tip l'or the loss of the toss by dismissing four of the Eastlanders before lunch. Dacre, Lowry, and Merritt bowled well.
Carnegie-Brown was responsible for ;]•_) of the first 48, his contribution including six fours, ’file side were alt' out for two hundred minutes’ play. The visitors made a bad start. Dempster was well set when he was run out, while Lowry was caught in the slips off his glove. Half of the New Zealanders were out for 57. Essex in the first innings made 139 and in the second Ilf for eight, and declared against Somerset, whose first innings score was 11(5 (Nichols taking four for 12). in the second Somerset made 57 l'or seven (Xicbolls taking live for 20). Essex woo on the first innings. Placing for Gi'oueester against Kent, Hammond made 12.1. and Parker took eight for 79. For Kent, Freeman in (lie first innings took six tor 84, and in the second seven for 98. Gloucester won. Hammond has completed 2000 runs for the season. For Worcester against Derby, lingers look four for 12. The match was not counted.
For Yorkshire against Glamorgan, Macaulay took six for ,52. ’I he match
For Sussex against Northants. Tate made I 1(1. The match was drawn. Rain again interfered with all the ma tches. LONDON. .July 8. Kennedy’s feat in taking ten wickets in the match Gentlemen v. Players has been paralleled only by the Kentishnian Fielder in 190(1. Ilearne had a chance to get the last wicket caught, and howled, and many of the spectators thought that lie dropped the ball deliberately in order not to spoil Kennedy's chance.
