A SCHOOL FIRE.
AUCKLAND. July -1
A fire in a large building in Wellesi'ey Street known as the Normal School broke out shortly before five on Sunday evening and was extinguished after an hour’s hard fight by the brigade. Considerable damage was done. The classrooms most affected were those of the model country school, junior model school and Standards IV., V.. and VI. Comparatively little damage was done to the furnishings, the school records were slightly damaged bv water and the library was practically unharmed. The eastern half of the buildings, containing five class-rooms, was prac-tieali’y undamaged. The fire originated in a heap of motor tyres stacked in a heap three feet high. In the opinion of Supt. Wilson it was an act of incendiary. There was no insurance, the Education Department carrying its own risk.
