The first of Canada's romantic history. from the days when the first explorers found her shores to the present day. passed in review this evening, before the dignitaries of her Government .representatives of other Dominions, and seventy-live thousand spectators, who covered every foot of Pailiament Hill and filled the principal streets of the Capitol.
The historical pageant was the climax of a day in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee, such a.s ( annda has never seen Indore. Ihe French element gave the ceremonies an additional touch of colour. Canadian costumes and singing of the. Dominion anthem. “O Canada,” in English and French, adding to the richness of the scene of the day’s ceremonies; beginning with the mangy atiun ol the Carillon, to the State banquet t--night, the wh le epitomising the country’s lilt-. The festivities were similarly carried on throughout the Dominion, and in various parts of the l nited States, where seven million Canadians reside.
I'.S.A. BUDGET. WASHINGTON. July 1. The United States Government ffuaneial report for the fiscal year 1927 shows receipts amounting to 1129 million dollars, and expenditures therefrom amounting to 3493 million dollars. resulting in a balance of approximately (>36 million dollars, compared with 277 millions in 1926. The total grass debt at- the close of the fiscal year totalled 18.511 millions, showing a decrease of 1131 millions since 1920.
The annual interest-hearing rate on the debt is 3.9 G, compared with 4.09 in 192 G. This is the first year since the close of the war in which the rate lias been below four per cent. It is announced that, despite the large surplus, the tax reductions by the next Congress will he slight, localise the size of the surplus Is due to special nun-recurrent and diminishing items of revenue.
