The Harbour Board decided on the recommendation ol -Mr Furkort (En-giueei-in-t hief) to proceed to dredge the inner basin at Haiti, with a view to providing a good coastal hnrboni anil postponement of the prosecution of the outer work meantime. The Board is considering a hire offer for the dredge Maui, which has been moored for sonic years in Auckland Harbour. The Marine Department proposes to use tile Maui for the development of West port Harbour and offers £SO per week with a remission of two in twelve for loss ol time. BUSH FATALITY. DA EG A YII.UK. June 30. A Maori, named Bene Cassidy, while gaged hushfelling at. A. Y. Trmmson's hush, Maropui, yesterday met with an accident which ended fatally last night in Tekaparu hospital. Deceased and a gang of men were .scarfing a tree, when it split and a piece knocked Cassidy down, and he fell' under the tree. His nfines freed him and carried him a mile to a sledge, lie was taken to the train which carried him to Dargaville whence he was conveyed by car to the hospital. Ill's injuries were so terrible that it was seen there was little hope, lull he lived ten hours. He leaves a widow and family.

SERIOUS CHARGES. CHRISTCHURCH, June 30. Three men. Walter Janies: Alexander Mitchell. Harry Allen Fellingliain. and Robert Grant Bastion, were charged with having unlawfully used

an instrument on a female. Two of them were charged with using an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage. The Chid Detective asked for a remand for a week and stated that in the case in which Mitchell and Bastion were concerned, the girl was dangerously ill. Fellingliain was granted hail at £250 and two sureties ol £l2o each anil Magistrate AFaslev ordered the other two to he detained in custody.
