IMPROVED ENG LYES. WASHINGTON, June 7. Mr Wilbur stated that naval engineers who helped to develop the aircooled engines that carried Lindbergh and Chamberlain across the Atlantic, were working on an improvement to engine and plane, which could make trans-Atlantic living practical, instead of experimental. Mr Wilbur declined to reveal the extent of the engineers' accomplishment, hut lie explained that the motors in Lindltergh’s and Chamberlain’s ’planes were only 225 horsepower, while experiments were being conducted towards perfecting five hundred and eight hundred horse-power both air-cooled and watercooled. Naval authorities are eagerly awaiting the forthcoming Atlantic trip of Byrd, carrying three passengers in a three-engined monoplane, believing success would mean mutsb for aeroplane travel.
