(Australian & N.Z. Cablo Association,j 'PICTURE INDUSTRY. (Received this day at 11.0 a.m.) MELBOURNE, June 8. Giving evidence before the Royal Commission on picture shows. Sir Victor Wilson, President of the -Motion Picture Distributors, estimated the capital invested in picture shows in Australia was 25 million sterling and the annual attendance 150 million. He denied that Americans had a strangehold on the industry. There was not the slightest difficulty in allowing good British'or Australia films.
POSTAL FINANCE. MELBOURNE, June 8. Mr Gibson (Postcmastcr-GeneraP, referring to the financial position of the postal department, said, while the Department was just about balancing its ledger, be thought it would be a grave mistake to give effect to a reduction in postal rate to a penny, which would involve a loss of C 1.100,000. He added there was very clear evidence that reduced postal rates did not increase the number of letters posted. Ho expected that the next financial
year receipts of his Department from all sources would be about C 1,000,000 monthly.
