N.S.AV. V. VICTORIA. [Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.] SYDNEY, Jan. 20. A cricket match between Now South Wales and Victoria for the Sheffield' Shield commenced at the cricket ground to-day in ilorions weather. At the drawing of stamps, New South Wales had on 424 rtsis for the loss of eight wickets. The thief scores were: Morgan 29, Macartney 41, Kippax (not out) 187, Taylor 29, Jackson 42. Oldfield 56. New South Wales won the toss and elected to bat but their start was not promising, three wickets being down for 91 runs. Then Kippax and Taylor earned the score to 155 when the latter was dismissed. Jackson then joined Kippax and the pair added 94 runs for the fifth wicket. Kippax was in great form and ho scored freely all round the wicket, treating the howlers impartially. Oldfield opened his shoulders and made somo beautifully-timed shots. His partnership with Kippax yielded 111 runs in G 6 minutes. Blackie was Victoria’s most successful bowler.

PONSFORD’S DECISION

MELBOURNE, Jan. 26

Ponsford. the cricketer, has accepted a position as a member of the commercial staff and as cricket writer on the Melbourne “Herald,” and he has refused the offer to return to England to nlay for Lancashire.
