ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. DROP IN BEEF. (By Telegraph.—Special to Guardian.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Hay. Messrs H. Matson and Co. report as follows regarding their stock sale at .Addington yards yesterday : Store .sheep—A largo yarding of store sheep for this time of the year and comprised a large proportion of store lambs which in our opinion, sold much better in proportion than fats, and showed little margin. Lambs generally were quite as good as last week, but ewes generally speaking, and what few wethers were yarded, were hardly a« firm. There were (several lines of North Island and West Coast sheep yarded, hut adult sheep were generally easier, specially towards the end of the sale. Best rape lambs 21s to 23s (Id, medium 18s to 20s (Id, others to 14s Gd. One exceptionally line lino of -I and G tooth North Island ewes made 335, s.m. ditto from 23s to 25s 3d, 2-toofh ditto 23s Gd, medium 2Gs to 150 s Gd. Shorn ewes and lambs 12s all counted forward, wethers 22s 3d, 2-tooth ditto 10s to 225. local s.m. ewes 18s to 245, medium to 1 Is, rape ewes 8s to 13s. Store cattle—A comparatively smali yarding, comprising as usual mostly nondescript lots. There was a good demand throughout and practically the only quotable lot was a line of decent yearlings which made from £3 10s to £3 I Is, also 1 pen of Hereford cross cows made £-1 Os. Other prices showed
no alteration. Beef—-Another large yarding comprising nearly 500 head and the quality mostly good. Owing to the continuous spell of hot weather local tradesmen were evidently not keen to buy and all classes, especially the heaviest sorts were considerably easier, and sales hard to make. We consider the market was oil an average of 20s to 30s below last week. Prices were as follows: -Prime steers £lO 10s to £l3; extra £l4 7s Gd, medium £8 10s to CIO, others to £7. Prime heifers £7 to £0 10s, extra £ll 7s Gd. medium £5 10s to £0 15s, others to £4. Prime cows £G to £8 10s, extra to £ll 2s Gd, medium £4 15s to £5 15s, others to £3 10s. Fat pigs—Another large yarding and the demand was on a par with last week. Heavyweights were easier. Values—Choppers C 3 to £5 Is, light bacon C 3 2s to £3 15s, heavy £3 17s Gd to £4 Is, extra to £5, average for heavy weights SLI to Gd, medium Gd to Gfd. Light, porkers 48s to 535. heavy 5Ts to 03s (id, average 7.’,d to Bd. sjtoru pigs- A small entry and the demand was slightly in excess of late sales. Weatiers 10s to 225, medium weanet's 23s to 275. small stores 28s to 32>, medium stores 33s to 425, large stores to -18 s. Mutton A larger yarding and largei proportion of ewes. Owing to continued hot weather mutton evidently was not in demand and consequently there was an. ovci'siipply for local requirements. Ihe market opened easier than last, week, and as the sale progressed this drop was more accentuated and towards the end of the sale passings were frequent and sales hard to make. Even so we consider prices were well up to and in some cases above schedule rates, although there was an average drop of Is to Is Gd on last week. Prime wethers 2Gs to 28s Gd, extra to 31s I Oil, medium 24s Gd to 25s (id, others 225. Prime owes 10s Gd to 235, extra to 25s 7d. medium 16s Gd to 12s. others to 13s. Lambs—A comparatively small yarding and included several West Coast lines. The quality generally was hardly up to the average and prices wore slightly easier. This perhaps may ho attributed to the irregular quality of Hie yarding, and although the sale did not show the same buoyancy as last week prices were well up to schedule and generally in vendors’ favour.
