RENOWN AT LAS I’ALMAS. LAS PALMAS, Jail. Il
On Monday night Hie Renown dropped anchor punctually outside Las Palmiis. where a tanker was waiting to oil her for her long Atlantic trip. Salutes were exchanged by ship and shore. Fears that- the Royal Pnrtv would he unable to land were unfounded. The first official function was a call by the British Consul with Captain Ferrer of the Spanish gunboat- Bonifaz. who was specially attached to the staff of the Duke bv order of tlie King of Spain. The Consul and the Captain plaid their respects to tile Yorks ill their apartment.
Then their Highnesses loft the ship in the Roy. il barge, bright with a new coat of paint. The sea was lively alongside the gangway and the ladies particularly found a difficulty to hoard her. while the remains of yesterday's swell still running, made the trip ashore not particularly pleasant. The Duke was in fuel naval dress and the Duchess in a simple white costume. The harbour was gtiy with bunting, the ships all being dressed. The Spanish Governor of the Canaries and other officials received them at the landing. Crowds cheered on route. They visited Queen .Victoria Hospital, the Seamen's Institute, 'and British {'lull, where they met the British community. Oil returning to the Renown they were given an enthusiastic farewell by Spaniards all along the streets. In the evening they entertained the Governor and other dignitaries aboard the Renown.
