-MONDAY, SEPTEMBER kOi.li. The adjourned monthly meeting was held at 8.30 p.m. Present: —Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), L. H. -Morel, A. B. Spiers, G. Davidson, W. Jeffries and R. Meharry. The minutes were confirmed and outward correspondence approved. IN W A R D COR JIESPON DENGE. From Dr Yaliutine, Wellington, in reference to treatment ol a patient asanatorium. —Received. From same, approving of appointment of Dr A Land 1 as anaesthetist, during the absence of Dr Teichelmanu. — Received. firom same, in reference to payment of maintenance by Maoris. —Received. From same, in reference to visit of visit of Dr Fulton to Hokitika.—Received. From Hospital Boards Association, re Maoris and lees.—Received. From same, in reference to annual Conference in Christchurch to bo held oil' March 2nd, 1927. —Received. From National Provident Fund, Wellington, in reference to procedure.— Received. From Otago Hospital Hoard, in reference to refusal of liability of maintenance of a patient.—Received. From Waipnwa Hospital Hoad, asking for particulars of service ol medical officer.—Received; reply approved. From Inangaua Hospital Hoard, asking'that assistance being granted an applicant he at once discontinued on their behalf.— Received. From South Otago Board, asking lor information in regard to out patients —Received; reply approved. From North Canterbury Board, notifying admission of a patient.— Received. From Dr Mundl. thanking Board lor appointment as consultant.—Received. From Dr Booth, Ktiraura. asking for leave of absence, stating she was leaving for Wellington, that -Mr Murdoch was in charge and that if she was away more than a' week she would orange for a locum teneus.—Received. From Kumara Medical Association protesting against the Doctor being granted leave without supplying a locum tenons, and asking that in lu Lure leave should not be granted the Medical Officer unless a locum tenons bo appointed.—Received. The (hairman said an unfortunate position bailarisen. He thought the protest of tile Kumara Committee was only reasonable. Mr Jeffries thought the Kumara Committee should have been consulted before the Doctor bad left Kumara. It was to lie regretted 'that tindoctor’s departure bad been so hurried and the Kumara Association should at least have been consulted. M Davidson thought the Kumara Committee should be applied to before the Doctor left the district. It would he only right that a proper locum tenons should be appointed. Mr Spiers said be was glad of tlia attitude of the Board, ft would be a good suggestion if the secretary were to write and explain. The people or Kumara wore not pleased at the recent action. If the proposed action wa < taken it would be satisfactory. The Chairman moved that the request of the. Kumara Committee he acceded to and that in future any application for leave of absence by the Medical Officer come through the Kumara Committee, the Chairman to deal with same.—Seconded by Mr Davidson and carried. From Nurse Scott, applying for an rural leave.—Received. From A. Aitken handing in balance on account of a patient.—Received. Two months leave of absence was granted to Messrs Blank and Wells. The Secretary reported the annua! hall had resulted in a profit of £126 11s 4d.—Received. The Chairman moved a very hearty vote of thanks he accorded to the many willing workers for their very generous assistance. Seconded by Mr Jeffries, supported by Messrs Davidson, Morel and Meharry and carried. The Secretary reported a gift of 300 feet of timber from Messrs Stuart and Chapman.—Received with thn nks. REPORTS. Mi- Jeffries reported that during Ibis visit to South Westland ho had met the residents of Okuru in connection with the provision of an ambulance. It was finally resolved that Mr Nolan make a model of a suggested ambulance and this would he sent up to Hokitika for consideration, lie suggested the arrival of the model he awaited and if satisfactory the ambulance he made. When the AVailio bridge is completed he suggested the horse ambulance he stationed at Bruce Bay or Welieka. In reference to the leave of absence for Nurse Scott it had been agreed that she ho granted leave as from the end of the month, lie had found that Nurse Scott had been giving general satisfaction. —Received. Tlie Chairman, thanked Mr Jeffries for his report. In reference to the proposed ambulance the Board had always been ready to supply an ambulance when a satisfactory proposal was submitted. Mr Davidson, urged that while the nurse was absent- some temporary nurse should he appointed. The vote of thanks to Mr Jeffries was agreed to.
H was resolved to ask Nurse Scott to nominate a substitute. , . It was resolved to make inquiries for the housing of the horse ambulance when Waiho bridge was completed. The Chairman moved that the alteiation to the bye-laws passed on July 10th he confirmed. Seconded by Mr Morel and carried. From Surgeon-Superintendent reporting on August Ist there were 39 patients in hospital; admitted duiing the month. 22 males, 7 females. Total treated. 4-1 males. 24 females—6B. Discharged cured. 15 males, 9 females ; relieved. 4 males. 1 female; died, 2 males. Total discharged, 21 males, 10 females—3l. In hospital 31st August, 23 males, 14 females—37. In hospital for over two months, 10 males. / females—l 7 From House Committee reporting a few small requirements in the grounds and about tlie buildings.—Received. Mr Jeffries complimented Mr Davidson on the great amount of work he was doing in the grounds and moved the recommendations of the Committee he approved. -Seconded by the Chairman and carried. Accounts amounting to £427 Gs Id were passed for payment-. The Treasurer reported, receipts, 0737 18s 7d: payments. £9lO 3s Gd ; credit balance £23114s lid.—Received. The next meeting was fixed for I.lth October. The Board rose at 9.45 p.m.
