"THE WHITE SISTER." A WONDERFUL PICTURE. The Princess Theatre was crowded to its utmost capacity last evening for the presentation of the celebrated Aletro-Goldwyn’s “ The White Sister*” The prologue acted by four children and Aliss D. O’Halloran, of Greymouth, was excellently carried out and the music supplied by the Oreymouth orchestra added charm to the production. The picture is the production of a master-mind and it is safe to say that nothing better has been seen on the silver sheet in Hokitika. I.illian Gish, as Donna Angela, suddenly cast from a luxurious home out into the calious world by the death of her father and the destruction of his will, takes full advantage of and excels herself in a role which gives full scope to her ability as an emotional actress. Ronald Coleman, as Captain Giovanni Sevori, ably fills the role of Donna Angela's soldier lover, who is called away to Africa on a military expedition and subsequently reported killed. I will wait for you for ever,” is Donna. Angela’s vow to Giovanni oil his departure. Giovanni returns only to find that the stricken girl, fin her grief at supposing him dead, has renounced the world and taken the final vows of White Sisterhood. The acting in the scenes in which Giovanni makes determined efforts to induce her to break tier vows rises to classic heights. His efforts are of no avail. “I have made my vows to God—God alone can grant me dispensation." says “ The WHle Sister.” Climax after climax follow in bewildering succession, leaving the audience spell-hound. Altogether the picture is a remarkable one and can he voted “ The best yet.” REPEATED TO-NIGHT. The management are to he congratulated on their enterprise in providing tic' screening in Hokitika and to meet the unanimous demand for further opportunity of viewing the picture, “The White Sister ” will lie repeated tonight whan it will bo screened for the last time. £V£RYBODYB PICTURES. •• I PAG 1.1 ACC!
