McMillan, ago nineteen, pleaded guilty to issuing valueless cheques at Masterton, Levin, Marton, Waipu and other places. It was stated that the accused had not boon before court previously, hut the chief detective mid ho understood McMillan’s father had lo make restitution of £93 for him some time ago. Ho was remanded for sentence until September 27th. MAN KILLED. AUCKLAND, September 20. .Inhii King, married, with four children. was killed lliis morning through a brick wall falling on him. He was working on a building at the hack of Masefield’s Fundry, Albert Street. PETROL FRICKS. AUCKLAND, September 20. A reduction in the price of the petrol sold at the street pumps will come into effect at noon to-morrow. The amount of the reduction will he lid a gallon, which is exactly the ninyunt of a similar reduction to he made by the importing companies to the distributors. At the nresent time, petrol bought in hulk from the pumps cost 2s 3d a gallon for first grades, with lower prices on a sliding scale. When larger quantities were purchased, the. new price for first grade spirit will he 2s a gallon, second grade petrol will be i orrcspomliiigly lower in price. The reductions are due to the new hulk storage and delivery system, inaugurated by the big oil importing companies. The price of case petrol will remain unaltered. REPUBLICAN PARTY. WELLINGTON, September 20. At the last ‘general meeting of the Irish Republican Association New Ken in nd, Wellington Branch, there was a fnl! attendance of members, and following resolution was unanimously adopted:—“Resolved that we, the members of the Irish Republican Association of New Zealand re-nffirm our fidelity to tiip aims of tlie Association, pledge our continued moral and financial support to those in Ireland working for the achievement of the ideals of this organisation and guarantee to every organisation in Ireland working for the advancement of the cause ot the sovereign independence and filial recognition of the Irish Republic and the economic freedom the Irish people the fullest measure of support. And In' it further resolved: That wo deplore to division of opinion that lias arisen iu the Republican, movement in Ireland regarding policy, and it is the wish and desire of this meeting that the forces of the Republican movement in Ireland and abroad present a- united opposition to the enemies of Irish freedom.” Copies of the above resolution have been forwarded to the Republican movement- in Ireland, the A.A.R.T.R-. in .America (who adopted a similar resolution recently) and to the Republican Press in Ireland and Australia.
