During the night a fall of sno'.v , cored the town of Reefton to a depth of one inch. The weather is (■old.a iul shows signs of clearing. The country districts will show a greater depth, and weather conditions are bad, especially for lambs and dairy cattle. NELSON, Sept. 16. Late this afternoon Nelson experienced something in the nature of a fall of snow. The surrounding hills were white and a few flakes fell in the city. There was a heavy fall of snow in the higher country.
CHRISTOI-lURCH. Sept. 16. Wednesday night’s frost was follow- , cd by a cold .southerly, and this morning .snow fell throughout the province. The gale continued. The snow soon disappeared. The temperature remains low. ’ DUNEDIN, Sept, 10. The weather took a sudden change here on Wednesday, and to-day cold conditions were accompanied by a heavy fall of snow, which continued intermittently all day, and into the night. The weather, as yet, shows no sign of a change. Snow lay on the ground over the city all day. INVER Car GILL. Sept. 16. Falls of snow, varying from a sprinkling in Invercargill to more than a foot in some of the more remote country districts were experienced in Southland to-dav. A biting gale blew from the south all day, bringing with it showers of nlcet and hail. Heavy mortality among sheep and early lambs is reported from Balfour and other districts, whore the untimely fall is expected to prove a serious matter for the farmers. Snow on the wires has interfered considerably with electric lighting, and some districts have been plunged into darkness. WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. A beautiful spring morning to-day changed suddenly towards mid-day. Heavy rain and hail fell, followed by a little snow, which is uncommon here. The weather has improved, but is still cold and threatening.
