' For tho match Australia v. North of England, heavy Tain in the morning, delayed the start until after lunch, the match commencing at 2.TS. Tho wicket had been covered, and, with a strong sun and breeze, when play commenced, it was good, hut rather soft. The North of England team were Foster, -Tupp, Enthoven, Root, Smith, Parker. Root and Parkin opened tho howling, making an auspicious start, for in tho third over, Taylor succumbed to a confident appeal for leg before hv Root. Wood full, meantime played solidly. Macartney hatted brilliantly, scoring by fours accurately placed over the heads of the closest fieldsmen. He was finally dismissed when ho drove one straight into tho hands of mid-off. Collins hatted quietly. Roth 110 and WoodfuU wore apparently feeling the effects of the ovednight journey to (Blackpool. Nevertheless he hatted attractively. Andrews batted sparklingly. WoodfuJl, continuing solidly, was never uncomfortable. Richardson was brilliant, scoring with many powerful drives. He pulled Root strongly to the leg boundary.
