ROADS AND SETTLEMENT SOUTH WESTLAND.
The following is a copy of a communication received from the Secretary, -Marine Department, Wellington, dated the 17th instant, relative to tire projected trip of the Progress League to Jackson Bay regarding the reading .scheme:
Adverting to previous correspondence regarding tho visit of the “ Tutanekai ” to toe West Coast Sounds and bays, I have to advise you that the vessel will he leaving- Wellington lor the southern trip on the 25th inst. and will leave Lyttelton on the 27th iast., arriving at Dunedin on the Ist September; she will leave Dunedin' on tbe 2nd September and arrive'nt Bluff on trie Jll l September. On account of some urgent work having to lie performed in Fovenux Straits it is impossible to definitely fix the date of departure from the Bluff for the West Coast Sounds and Rays, but as near as possible it will not be earlier than the lOth September. “ -Should it be decided to join the vessel prior to her final departure for tlie West Coast, f bave to inform you that it might become necessary, in view of the work that has to be done, lor any passengers on board to leave tbe vessel at the Bluff and to rejoin about the 10th September. “It is not possible to definitely promise that the vessel will remain at Jackson’s Bay for a day, but unless .something unforeseen occurs an endeavour will be made to remain there lor this time to enable the party to have some time on shore. “In view of the landings on the West Coast being difficult, and at this time of tho year sometimes impossible, it is impossible to make anything definite in the nature of arrangements Unpeople to lie landed or picked up from Oku ru.”
