PRICE OF FLOUR.
INCREASE IN DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, Aug. 19. Owing to advances in Australian flour and a corresponding increase in New Zealand wheat, millers have decided to increase the price of flour in Dunediij, to £2O ss, less 21 per cent for dish (sucks in). It is evident that millers are taking to heart the pronouncement of the Minister for Agriculture that the Government would not interfere with ordinary cliunne.'s of trade supplying Now Zealand with wheat anti flour. The natural consequence of this policy is that the millers have to charge for New Zealand flour in accordance with quotations for Australian flour. As ono miller stated to-day, tho public would he unreasonable to expect New Zealand flour to be sold at a. considerably less price than tho Australian quotation, in view of the obvious necessity of importing at least three .months requirements of flour from Australia, before the new harvest conics
This latest rise of 10s per ton appears to make the total increase since tho bump in flour £1 15s, but the total advance for the millers of Dunedin has been about £1 ss. Before the increases they were selling at loss. The rents ini ng 10s has been devoted to meeting competition of Australian flour in the North Island. By the Waikouaiti, which arrived last week, twenty-nino tons of flour came to Dunedin, the boat carrying agout 1500 tons altogether. The Dunedin consignment was not for millers here. Another boat is due to arrive in New Zealand shortly with u heavy consignment of flour.
