WESTLAND COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.

MONDAY, AUGUST 16th,

The Executive of the above met at the County Chambers at 4.35 p.m. Present : Mr D. J. Evans (President), Rcvd. Knowles Smith, Messrs E. Partridge, J. Conning, A. G. Pilkington, R„ Lynn and J. W. Morris (lion, secretary).

Apology was made for the absence of Dr Kennedy, and regret expressed at his illness, with good wishes for a ■speedy recovery. The Secretary reported In regard to collections received, about £2O having lieen donated to tho prize fund by wellwishers. The donations were received with thanks.

It was reported Mr and Mrs W. Newman were donating a silver cup for the Choral Singing for tho Schools, [or which entries had been received from four schools. The donation was greatly appreciated. The cup is to he held from year to year by the winning school, and will be known as the Newman Cup. It was resolved to secure the services of Piper Hay if possible for the national dancing.

The Treasurer (Mr Conning) was requested to arrange for a banner for the action, chorus,'the trophy to be held from year to year by the winning school.

The Secretary reported in regard to the entries received, and. submitted a draft allocation of the events over two days. It was explained there were some 180 entries, and both days would be fully occupied as follows:

Monday at Town Hall, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m,; 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Tuesday at Princess Theatre, 10 a.m to 1 p.m.; 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. (demonstration concert).

Tiie day session on Tuesday at Princess Theatre will be reserved for the dancing. The night session will be the final demonstration night with all the winning competitors.

The President will preside on the opening night at the Town Hall, and the' Mayor (Mr Perry) will he asked to preside at the Princess Theatre on Tuesday night.

The Chairman and Secretary were deputed to attend to various matters to ensure the smooth-running of the Competitions.
