WESTLAND PROGRESS LEAGUE.

MONDAY, AUGUST 16th

•The Executive met at the County Chambers at 7.45 o’clock. Present:— Messrs T. W. Duff (Chairman), IV. J. Jeffries, J. J. Mclntosh, D. J. Evans, .J. \Y. Morris, W. Craw and T. W. Bruce.

Apology was made for the absence of Messrs W. Butler, W. Wilson and l)r Teichelmann. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. IWNARD CORRESPONDENCE. From P. It. Climie, stating lie was enquiring in regard to a visit to Jackson Bay.—Received. From .Marlborough League forwarding copy of minutes of meeting.—Received. From Westland County Council forwarding copy of letter from Minister of Public Works regretting copy of departmental report regarding loading at Jackson Bay roading scheme could not he supplied.-—Received and held over till the Minister visited the district next month.

It was resolved on the motion ol Mr Jeffries to support the request of tho Marlborough people for the speedy completion of the road to the West Coast via Tophouse, and ask tho support of the local bodies in urging the matter on the attention of the Government. A newspaper report containing a scathing account of alleged mismanagement in the road and bridge construction work by tho Public Works Department was read, and it was decided to ask the West Coast members of Parliament to support any action of the Marlborough people in tho matter. A proposal to tour tile route in January next, travelling from Hokitika to Blenheim by car by the Tophouse route was moved and favourably supported. Mention was made of the early departure of Dr Teichelmann on a trip to the United States and England. A committee was set up to arrange a farewell gathering prior to tho doctor’s departure.
