THE FRENCH SITUATION
[Australian »& N.Z. Cable Association.] CHECK FOR M. POINCARE. (Received this day at 9.0 a.m.) PARIS, August 8. M. Poincare lias hitherto oarried all before him in connection with the proposals for the re-established of finance on a sound basis, but lias now received a cheek. This has arisen in reference to a desire to obtain an immediate ratification of the debt agreements with Britain and America. Resolute opposition was shown by some members of the Cabinet. The objection is directed more against the letter of the agreement than the former Prime Minister. Therefore it was decided to mark time and the Finance Committee of the Chamber agreed to a suggestion of a number of its members that a sub-eom-mi'.tee bo appointed to examine the inter-Allied debt documents during the rot oss, the committee meantime, to defer hearing JI. Poincare’s statement.
