Following on a conference between President Coolidgo who is visiting his boy-hood homo at Plymouth, Vermont, and newspapers; it became known that the President may ask next session of Congress to further strengthen the Sherman and Clayton Anti-Trust Acts, which are now being contravened by Trusts forming co-operative associations.
AMERICAN TRUSTS. (Received this day at 11.0 a.m.) NEW YT)RK. Aug. 7. A IT is expected two methods have been evolved, whereby big'business entities defeat the laws. The first is through the purchase, not of shares, but of a controlling interest in the physical assets of a competition, giving the former actual control, without being liable to prosecution under the law. The second method is by bringing together a largo number of non-competing plants under unified control. This also is not an ial’raetion of the law but it is cTeclared that if allowed to continue it might lead to dangerous monopolies. Changes in law would he directed to make hotli practices illegal. Evidence that efforts to create monopolistic combines continues apace in United States is seen in the fact that since July 1925, the ’Department of Justice has brought to a close thirty-two cases under antitrust laws and began fourteen new suits. Fines amounting to 307 thou- ■ sand dollars were collected from violators.
