[Renter Telegrams.] U.S-A. HEAT AVAVe! NEW YORK, July 9. The United States is in the grip of a. heat wave, which is taking a toll of life, particularly" in the large cities, with the thermometer still mounting At Nogales, in Arizona, the reported tsmperature is 112 degrees, while New York, with 91 degrees and a high humidity, saw much suffering, particularly due to congestion of the subways, owing to the strike of subwaymen. Thousands are sleeping in parks and crowding to the beaches in an effort to get relief. Three persons are already reported dead and 1 hundreds are prostrated. At Chicago, which reported 93 degrees of heat, ten persons are dead and many prostrated. The heat in many places in the Aliddle West is accompanied by tornadoes. A sform swept through Indianna and ■.southern Alichigan, resulting in six deaths. The New England States have also suffered much from the heat, 98 degrees, being reported at Springfield, Massachusetts.
