The splendour that lias clung about their old walls for so many years is gradually being effaced by time and dust. The sale shortly of one of the oldest homes in Australia— Claremont cottage, at Windsor—-will inevitably mark its passing, for it was built 130 years ago, only eight years after the first fleet arrived. AVindsor, which to-day is one of the haunts of the week-end motorists, was not even connected hv road with Parramatta, the cradle of Australia, when this old home was Imilt. Its condition to-day indicates the sound, honest workmanship that was put into houses in those days. The sandstone bricks in the old home, which have weathered tho storms and the stress cl 130 years, are a relic of the past, when rum and farm produce were the general currency. and Governor John Hunter was defeated by the stratagem of the runvl'linning officers of the corps which it was his business to discipline.
