THE HOUSE. WELLINGTON, July 22. The House met at 2.130 p.m. Mr Potter (Roskill). Hr Glienii (llangitikei) and Mr Hudson (Motueka) were sworn in. Mr Potter presented a petition signed by 71,488 persons' asking for an amendment lor the Motor Bus Regulations. The Imprest Supply Bill, No. 1 appropriating tlw sum of £2,701,000 was introduced by the Governor-General s message. Hon E. P. Lee was appointed Chairman of Committees for the day. and after a lengthy debate' in which questions of unemployment, and immigration were fully discussed, an amendment moved by Mr Holland (Bullet - ) expressing nn-confidcneo 'in the Government because of its failure to adequately provide for unemployment, was defeated hv 53 to 13, after which the Bill was passed without further discussion.
The Local Authorities Empowering Relief of Unemployment Bill was introduced .by Governor’s Mcssaglo. The Bill authorised local bodies to raise loans for the above purpose withouttaking a poll of ratepayers. The Bill passed all stages practically without discussion. The House rose at 1.30 n.m. till 2.30 next day.
