OCEAN RACE. VANCOUVER, June 12. Six yachts sailed at noon to-day from San Pedro, in California, for an ocean race to Honolulu, for the Lipton Cup and other trophies.

An amazing picture of American political corruption has been drawn by witnesses before the Senate Investigation Committee, which is enquiring into the expenditure of nearly a million and a. ljilf dollars l>v candidates at the recent primary elections in Pennsylvania, which resulted in the choice of Yare cabled on May 19th. Primaries under American law ] rovide for a poll among aspirants Tor nomination for office, whereat only regularly enrolled members of - the party cast their vote. One witness declared that one aspirant had thirtyfive thousand so-called watchers in the district, and each whereof received ten dollars, while the total vote castfor this aspirant in that district was less than fifty thousand. A witness said that when the time for paying out came, it was,like a rush pii a bank. Other witnesses told of voters being helped to mark ballots, of armed men brought in, of tear gas bombs used, and every conceivable form of malpractice used-
